A bit late to the party, but WOW! Posted: 08 Dec 2020 05:22 PM PST This is such a great game. Different, realistic, beautiful—I got hooked from the beginning. The quest where I have to burry my parents with the rain, thunder and the sad music almost made me cry. So depressing and tragic. I feel so bummed I didn't get to explore Skalice before it was attacked, I was saving all the NPCs and items. All disappeared with such brutality lol That said, I have a lot of trouble unlocking chests, either with the controller or the mouse/keyboard. Also, what's with the combat system? Not sure how I got past the tutorial, but I got my ass kicked by the bandits. Not sure I know how to properly fight. Lastly, do I have to ration my saves? Again, great game, looking forward to visiting taverns, completing quests and enjoying every bit of this authentic Medieval gem! [link] [comments]

Herb's Guide to surviving KCD - Part 1 - In depth Weapons Guide Posted: 08 Dec 2020 04:39 PM PST Hello fellow Henry's. It's great to see new people joining the community constantly. I had a lot of questions that I had to figure out for myself when the game got released; To make it easier on you all, here's my tips I've picked up on my travels. Let's start by going with the pros and cons of each weapon. Ps, I will not be including the Halbert as it is by far the best weapon. However, you cannot hold one in your inventory. The Long Sword: PROS: The long sword has the greatest reach of all the weapons. This allows you keep an opponent at range - making it easier to dodge, block, parry and control the pace of the fight. The strength perk Headcracker gives you a chance to one shot enemies on head strikes. The straight lunging stab attack aimed at an opponent's head is the easiest way to get a kill. The long sword is also the fastest weapon. This is valuable in many ways. It makes the abuse of headcracker far easier. If an opponent goes for an attack you can outspeed him on reaction. CONS: A longsword has high stabbing and slashing damage, but has very little Armour penetration. You will make short work of lightly armored opponents and even geared end game enemies; as long as they wear an opened faced helmet. If the enemy you are facing is a fully armored knight with a full guard helmet its going to be a stall match. It may feel like your trying to cut a tree with knife, but the trick is to keep going for stab lights on there guarded face. Headcracker will drop them eventually. Only side ways heavy if your facing lightly geared enemies or you have an open combo going. Due to end game enemies usually being fully geared it can take a lot of strikes. This means your weapon will suffer a lot of damage. Make sure to bring lots of repair kits. Last con would be the Long sword is better suited to being a great 1v1 / 1v2 weapon. The lack of a shield opens you up for side attacks when you are being swarmed and encircled from 4v1 groups. Looking at the positives: A long sword decimates 85% of opponents in the game. It does struggle against fully armored opponents, but its definitely still great enough to take down the other 15%. It just takes longer and has a greater chance of dieing than the other weapons against large groups. It is also the weapon Henry uses in cutscenes and has the most style. The Shield. PROS: To start, what is the value of a shield? A shield will let you cut back on the death loading screens. When facing packs of opponents which you usually are, a shield will block some attacks on your left side if its raised. This allows you to kite backwards groups easily. You keep your guard up and try to keep two opponents on your left. While with the targets on your right, you are trying to quick stab their head and drop them like flies. If you are moving backwardness, only two will most likely attack you from the front. The other two or more in a group will usually be trying to get behind you. Backpedal - stab- back pedal - master strike - backpedal .. etc. CONS: A shield's extra defence is a blessing to have. However, at the same time, the extra reach of a Longsword is a great form of defense as well. It all depends on what you prefer, full 180 view protection in front of you, or longer faster attacks that lets you direct the pace of a fight instead of reacting. The Short sword. PROS: A short sword typically has high slashing and stabbing damage, however, like the Longsword it suffers from piercing damage. When facing fully masked armored foes - the short sword will feel underwealming. You will need to rely on headcracker to take down those foes. You will quickly cut through all other enemies. If they are wearing leather on their body or lacking chain mail, side heavys will decimate them. If they are fully plated knights aim for a quick light aimed at their face. Without a full guard helmet shortswords will provide quick kills with face stabs. To recap you will tear through most enemies except the few with covered faces. You also gain the benefits of a shield which make the short sword great for fighting groups. It is fast, decent range and with great stats. Overall I am a bit biased as short sword and shield is my favorite combo. CONS: Has more range than a mace and an axe, is also longer; but it is still shorter and slower than a longsword. Also like I said above, does struggle against fully plated enemies wearing a full guard helmet. The Axe. Essentially the jack of all trades and master of none. Note the only good axe is the one with a pointed tip on top. This extends the range and massively boost stab damage. The axe can tear through all enemies, it just won't kill as fast as the other weapons. There isn't much to say about the axe, so I'll just say this. Best piercing weapon: longsword Best slashing weapon longsword/shortsword Best Armour piercing weapon: mace The weapon that's good at all 3: the axe with pointed tip. The only real con of the axe isn't really combat related, but I find it clips on your Armour a lot while sheathed and doesn't look great in my opinion. If you look good you kill good am I right. The mace: The mace might be the most op weapon, but it does have some draw back. First let's go over the pros, It has the highest armor penetration out of all the weapons. It's heavy attacks also swing pretty quick. One heavy to the enemy's head and they're most likely going down. To avoid getting master striked by an enemy its best to walk up shield raised with the mace and engage in a clinch. Click R1 (srry play on ps4 don't know pc command) this will do a quick punch to their jaw and open up their guard for a quick top heavy immediately after. There is no enemy the mace can't plunder, so why you ask should you bother with the other weapons? Well the mace's range is ass. To get a kill you almost always have to engage in a clinch first or risk getting master striked. The side heavies are garbage and the stab moves suck. For group fighting i prefer the short sword and shield for more versatile attacks. So to recap, yea the mace is op. The heavy hits to the head deals insane damage. But to achieve that damage your locked into a very boring defensive match against enemies. In groups you'll be swarmed due to your small reach. And thats about it. I only use a bow for hunting so maybe someone else can give tips on combat use. Tldr; If you're struggling with combat use a short sword and shield or a mace. If you're looking for style points use a longsword. If you wanna do it all pretty well rock the axe [link] [comments]

Posted: 09 Dec 2020 05:50 AM PST I wanted to know how historically accurate the campaign is with the people like king Sigismund and Wenceslas the war going on because I originally thought the game was going to be accurate in gameplay but take plenty of liberties in story but after hearing people talk about the Avignon papacy split and jan hus which is stuff I learned about is my history class literal weeks ago I'm curious about what else has flown under my radar Edit: I'm still pretty early in the game only just finishing the night out with father godwin so no major spoilers please [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Dec 2020 09:22 AM PST Can I steal back Lady Stephanie's Jewels after I turn them in to Woyzeck? I just feel bad that I'd steal those jewels from her as she's been really good to Henry. Elbows*** But at the same time I also want to complete the quest. [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Dec 2020 07:05 AM PST The combat in the game is great except for one key mechanic that in my opinion messes it up. Perfect blocks and dodges work perfectly fine to defend and shift between defense and offense but masterstrikes negate any risks of long perfect block chains that require skill. The problem applies to player characters and NPCs it's far too easy to kill an enemy by just waiting for them to attack and getting a free kill, its also too hard to attack high level enemies making the combos and faints feel worthless to the ultimate no u technique. Masterstrikes feel antithetical to what the game wants, Bernard in your first lesson says "There is no magic technique that will win you every duel" but hes wrong and ge teaches you the exact technique. In the next game they seriously need to look at this mechanic and apply some sort of risk to it or remove it completely as all it does is make high level combat a staring contest. Rant over [link] [comments]

Just finished KCD (sort of), here are my thoughts Posted: 09 Dec 2020 12:49 AM PST Just to preface, I do love this game. I'm not looking to tear into it or anything, I'm just curious how many of you had similar experiences to me and how you handled it. So this was technically me second play through, but on my first I only got halfway through the story. I found it incredibly hard but I muddled through because I loved the world so much. This time around I found it a little easier. I put some proper effort into improving combat, and it helped a little. But honestly, I think the game makes things harder than they need to be. Then there are the bugs... But I'll get to that later. I have a few observations about combat. Firstly, I know everyone always says you're a peasant, you should suck, etc. And that's fair, in the beginning. But when you spend so much time training, for it to feel just as klunky and slow as in the beginning (even with masterstrikes and perfect blocks) it just doesn't feel right. I think target lock is part of the problem, but I just wish my high level soldier could feel he owed his victory to skill rather than dumb luck for once. That and, honestly there's just too much to keep track of for me. I know people will say git gud or whatever, but you know not everyone is blessed with perfect reflexes or the ability to multitask at such high speed. Like I practice and practice but my brain just doesn't work that way. I don't even bother with combos, or strike direction tbh. I mean I muddle through, but it's hard. I just wish it wasn't such a stigmatized thing with games. So many people won't be able to experience the amazing world of this game because they physically cannot work the controls. And I think that's sad. Another thing, I wish there were more nonviolent solutions. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of opportunities to use your words or bribe or whatever. But it's almost like the game lulls you into a false sense of security. No, you don't need to fight. Solve your problems without violence. But we'll force you into scripted combat encounters anyway, often with no warning. Like, either give me alternate routes for those encounters or force me into combat more early on so I'd actually learn to fight. I really liked the story itself. I absolutely loved the whole medieval detective thing. I do think some objectives could have been telegraphed a little better, but that's what the Internet's for I guess. I love the realism in certain parts. I love alchemy and the dog and working your way up in the world. What I do not live is the bugs. Or the save system. I think a game as prone to crashes and game breaking bugs as this (at least mine was, I don't know about the rest of you) ought to be able to save more often. No one likes replaying the last 2 hours because of a bug which was in no way the players fault. All in all, criticisms aside I would Reccomend the game, but only if they know what they're getting themselves into. It's certainly not a game for everyone. I enjoyed it for the most part, and despite all my gripes I'll probably play it again. What about you all? What were your experiences like playing through the first time? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Dec 2020 09:24 PM PST Hello, I have been playing KCD for 23 hours so far and I really love the plot and graphics, but combat system still feels super counter-intuitive and even after a lot of reading and watching videos I don't get how it works exactly. So while I manage to win some 1v1s, I feel like I'm doing so more by luck rather than by understanding how game works. As soon as I run into opponent I can't kill just mashing buttons I get my ass handed to me.
I think that's it for now, sorry for wall of text. [link] [comments]
Did they fix the victim is a witness bug? Posted: 08 Dec 2020 09:22 PM PST I'm about to start playing again after taking a long break after I first beat it. But one of the big reasons I quit was because of this bug. I love playing a psychopathic Henry, but the kind that never got caught. But when I last played it this was impossible. So did they fix this or do you still have to never be seen by the victim? Which honestly makes no sense liken everyone has said (they're dead how can they report you?). [link] [comments]
I've faced an issue with almost all my dlcs Posted: 08 Dec 2020 01:37 PM PST I love this game and recently beat it again after the tedious investigation parts, but when I tried to do any of the dlcs either that be tourney or from the ashes, the people assigned to that quest don't exist, such as tourney guy or combatants, or locator in priblaslaviz, I really need some help. I think it persists though the game saves and into new ones, I've tried to uninstall the mods I use, which are perkaholic and a few small ones like no red screen on low health or better targeting, nothing that would cause this issue, I've uninstalled the dlcs and reinstalled them and reloaded the save and still nothing. I even got a save file and imported it and went to priblaslaviz and they were not there. I even used ladders to clip into walls to try to find them and nothing. Help please. [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Dec 2020 01:25 PM PST Hey all! I'm on my 2nd playthrough and I have a question, should I empty my inventory at millers house before entering the Monastery section? I forgot what I did my first time around and I don't want to loose my lords of zoul armor. [link] [comments] |
