Now that PS5 is out, could some test KCD?

    Posted: 12 Nov 2020 03:28 AM PST

I wonder if it upgrades the game in terms of pop in and lag. I loved this game but stopped playing because it was too buggy on my ps4. If someone could see how it runs on ps5 for me I would highly appreciate it!

'In The Cloister' Quest and Performance

    Posted: 12 Nov 2020 09:44 AM PST

    Apoilers

Man, I've been really enjoying this game. It's my first play through, I've nailed the mechanics and for the most part enjoy the fighting (it has its completely stupid moments, but I've taken on guys 5v1 and lived to tell the tale and enjoy it mostly) and have been eating up the side quests, robbing every store, and dressing my Henry up like I want him. All good.

And then I get to this quest, about infiltrating the monastery, finding and killing/kidnapping Pious, the disguised bandit. But the frame rate goes to SHIT and I mean almost unplayable levels at certain parts of the monastery. And what is a really cool and enjoyable quest in theory, is a completely boring chore in reality, and I've never related to the Monks more - it really is "purgatory". I cant beleive I'm playing this game 2 years after its release and dealing with so many bugs on a main quest.

I tried to follow the routine, I tried to be a good little priest boy, I TRIED SO HARD to get Pious to Rattay rather than killing him. I tried to do all the side quests within the monastery. But in the end I always had to reload my save because of some stupid glitch or anomaly in my game, so much so I ended up just reloading to the start of the quest, skipping the initial tour, going straight to sleep, and stabbing that bitcj in the dead of night and just leaving him there. And then, for a game that boast realism, not only did Sir Radzig not care despite the fact he heavily urged me NOT to kill him, it was never even mentioned and there are no consequences for doing so.

Man, when I bought this game 2 years ago it was unplayable. Playing it now its improved loads, but that it can still be THAT buggy and unplayable at times is just laughable. And to think I was loving this game so much I bought all the DLC.

Anyway, enjoying the game, hate warhorse, but Henry is my son and I love him.

    Two questions about thieving:

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 09:13 PM PST

    1. Why does it always seem like I get caught by the guards on my way out of town, even if I sneak in the dark and knock everybody out and leave without being seen?

    2. Where the heck do people keep all the good stuff? I swear I get all the keys and open all the chests and I don't find any of the stuff the merchants sell if you ask them to trade.

    Thanks!

How the hell Is Hardcore (Combat) better? (Question/Rant)

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 10:39 PM PST

The Question: People actually LIKE the combat BETTER In Hardcore mode?

The Rant: Sure It's a little easier to focus without the star In the middle of the screen but you're too busy getting kicked around by 3 Plastered drunks with sticks to every actually see what you're doing so what's the point? Horse Instantly throws you the second It SMELLS and enemy, let alone seeing one. You can't outrun anyone early game, hell what am I saying, even with the Sprinter perk they'll outrun you. Defense Is non-existent cause they have seemingly limitless stamina while your character swings once (No I wasn't using a weapon my stats didn't match) and has an Asthma attack and while you're too busy trying to breath they're taking turns hammering you like a sword on an Anvil to the beat. Press Q if you wanna stall but you'll just run out of breath quicker.

    Pribyslavitz Marius Bug

    Posted: 12 Nov 2020 03:50 AM PST

So, after completing "A Place to Call Home" I extended my Rathaus, leaving only the second Rathaus expansion as only project left for Pribyslavitz. I left Marius sitting in his new Rathaus office and returned later to complete the village, but found Marius standing some ten metres in front of it unmoving, day and night. I can talk and pickpocket him, but I cannot slay or shoot or stealth kill him. The only way he moves is by aiming an arrow at him, which will make him panic and run off for a guard. But this only gets him to another position where he can idly while away the days standing. In possibly related news, there are no daily judgments in the village green anymore (though this might be because I have exhausted all events or because I completed "A Place to Call Home", not sure).

This has made building impossible. Neither the Rathaus book nor talking to Marius directly will get him moving to the Rathaus to initiate building. Talking to him again will just restart the conversation from beginning. Good job, Warhorse.

I know this bug seems to be a thing, but is there any way to remedy this? Some mod to skip the part of building that involves walking with Marius to the site and skips immediately to the cutscene displaying the new construction? Some coding trick to do that? I'm not going to replay this so that I build everything before completing "A Place to Call Home", as some have suggested is necessary. (By the way, the only mods I have used so far are Instant Herb Picking and Saving Anywhere. Even without them, Marius remains a stone.)

Rigor Mortis set In Real Quick Due to Bonk on Head

So disappointed by the ending (SPOILERS)

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 02:51 PM PST

So, I just finished KCD for the first time (with 236 hours of gameplay) - finishing all side quests, getting max levels, all that fun stuff, and boy did I enjoy it - right up until the end. (Warning: This is a rant)

This is more than 2 years after release, so I consider the game to be in its "finished state". But WOW was that ending a slap in the face. I feel like I would've enjoyed my KCD experience more if the game just abruptly ended and said "more to come in KCD 2", or gave it some feeling of having ended, instead of a painfully long 'cliffhanger' meant to segue into an entirely new story. The whole ending revolves around story elements that are almost entirely unrelated to Henry's adventures, and center around the larger events in the Kingdom.

    • Henry never finds Von Aulitz to get revenge, (in fact he never even SEES him, or hears him referenced throughout almost the entire story), even though the 'Vengeance' objective to find and kill him is present throughout the entire game, leading you to believe you will, in fact, get sweet vengeance at some point (the game does such a good job of making you want it).
    • The same can be said for Henry's sword, there's not even an option of killing Istvan during the siege to reclaim it, or going after him in the Epilogue (THE SWORD IS ON THE COVER OF THE GAME). How hard would it have been to add a simple quest to the Epilogue that leads to Istvan hiding in the woods, or at least gets you on his trail? (Now THAT would be an enticing cliffhanger, because it's related to Henry's story and I'm already invested in getting back the sword and getting revenge).
    • The entire follow-up to the 'An Oath is an Oath' quest has you discussing with Hans all the reasons that Istvan can't be trusted to leave behind Sir Radzig as he's promised, making you think "Oh yeah, something interesting and worthy of a game ending is gonna happen when I get to Skalitz. Maybe I'll find Radzig dead, recreating the horror of the game's opening in a deeply emotional and gut-wrenching failure to save my father a second time. Maybe I'll be forced to make a choice that defines Henry forever. Oh man I can't wait to find out what happens!" But no, nothing interesting happens, it's just "Oh, there's Radzig, just as Istvan promised, gee golly I guess nobles really are good for their word. And Istvan got away... Oh well, that's that I guess. Look, what's happening over there? The End."
    • The 'Epilogue' was almost an hour of dialogue and text completely unrelated to Henry's story, centering around a cast of characters that are mostly absent from the main game (except for in references from books or cutscenes). The Margrave Jobst, John II, Prokop, Wenceslas & Sigismund, Von Bergow, Von Rosenberg, ugh too many to name. Oh. My. God. - BOOORING. This is supposed to be the resolution I've been seeking the whole game, after everything Henry's gone through? An hour of exposition dialogue explaining minute details about a game world I'm just about to depart from? With none of it pertaining to any sort of potential resolution for Henry's story ? I'm sorry, am I supposed to be interested, or paying attention to any of this?
    • None of Henry's 'choices' seem to have any affect on the ending. For a world that offers you so much freedom, it sure is stifling have such a well-rounded story stuffed through a square hole at the end. Could I at least have some choice about how to deal with Istvan after the Siege? Or whether I would abandon Hans and pursue Von Aulitz instead?
    • The entire ending sequence following Hans on his horse at a slow trot, listening to him extoll another novel's worth of information about the game world, as I chew on the disappointment sandwich that was just abruptly stuffed down my gullet, is painful. This entire sequence could've easily been handled in a short cutscene. It's not rewarding, or fulfilling, or a proper send-off from the game world - it's tedious and empty.

Now, 236 hours is a lot of time to play any game. So was it worth it? Here's the thing - even if it wasn't worth it, it would've felt like it was if I just never finished the last main quest. I could've walked away from it thinking, 'That was a really great adventure with a lot to appreciate and come back for'. I would've been able to look back on it fondly. But now it feels like I can't go back to it, knowing how inconsequential the game's story is. After all, the story really carries this game, your choices and actions feel so meaningless without it. In my mind, that's what makes this 'ending' so disappointing - it makes a big promise and then never delivers on it. (Ironic considering the game's name, Deliverance).

But I can't just be crazy, right? Am I the only person who feels this way? Some past searches of the topic showed that people, at one time, were expecting an 'Act 3' or DLC to come out and resolve the story, but that's probably out of the picture by now. What a sad way to end a game.

TLDR: This game would've been better off ending with rolling credits and a 'to be continued'. Putting this ending on the game is like making a delicious Vanilla Malt Milkshake, and then dropping a dead cockroach into it.

Suspiciously poor performance. Am I missing something?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 11:10 AM PST

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask. I figured I'd try.

2070 Super, Ryzen 5 3600, 16GB 3200mhz, latest drivers. Should handle the game just fine on very high/ultra 1080p, right?

I tested my components, userbenchmark ranks it at 103%, all components performing at or above expectations. I even turned settings down to medium at 720p, and still, in Skalitz, outdoors, it's difficult to maintain even a solid 45fps.

Don't get me wrong, I used to play this game at lowest settings barely breaking 40, but with a new PC like this, I expected more juice. Does anyone have experience running this game on high-end hardware this poorly?

Edit: For anyone facing similar issues, removing the GPU and seating it in a different slot on the motherboard remedied the issue. Perhaps a simple re-seat would have also done the trick. Smooth 60fps at Ultra-high settings.

When does pestilence Quest timer starts?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 12:32 PM PST

I was just wondering. I have a quest to go to merhojed, but don't actualy have the pestilence side quest yet as I have not been there. So does the timer start now? Can I fail the quest by taking to long? Or do I have to go to merhojed for the timer to start

A Little Help Needed (From The Ashes DLC)

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 12:25 PM PST

So I've just finished the main story and would like to start the From The Ashes DLC. I've heard that you're going to need around 100K groschen to build all the buildings and wages for your workers. The thing is, I only have 41K at this current moment and have no idea of what I shall do to obtain such funds. Please give some helpful advice, my good sirs and ladies!
