Q&A With Henry Of Skalitz | Kingdom Come Deliverance | Tom Mckay Interview

Changing clothes should only be possible while in a "home" or tavern bedroom

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 05:37 AM PDT

I love the RP aspects of this game, but one thing that bugs me is the inventory. I get that games have to have inventories exist because a "what you can hold is what you can carry" system would be tedious and closer to a "real-life" simulator than an RPG. However...

I don't like how, if I'm ambushed on the road, I can quickly bring up my inventory and switch to my combat gear. Or, if I'm in town I can just change in front of everyone.

Imo, you should only be able to change outfits in a home. To combat the tediousness of changing outfits, you could have preselected outfits (say "combat", "noble" and "stealth") which you can create to easily change. Maybe even paired with some animation or a small wait period (like eating or washing has).

Yes I could RP myself and only change inside a home, but then it doesn't feel like RP, and the storage system for clothing is clunky. Just a suggestion though.

    I'm being haunted

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 07:55 AM PDT

A couple of days ago, I was spending the night at the inn in Sasau. I woke up and thought to try some pickpocketing because I suck at it. So I break into the room next to me and try to pickpocket the guy sleeping there. He wakes up and starts screaming so I panic and stealth kill him. I quickly leave and don't notice any real hit to my rep in Sasau so I forget about it.

A couple of game days later, I find out I killed the master fresco painter and I kind of needed him for the All that Glisters quest. Whoops, my bad.

At least a game week later, I am back in Sasau. I go to the inn and the master fresco painter is back alive! But now he gets nervous when I am near, starts talking about hearing stuff, and then runs away at full speed. No one else seems to notice, so this must be his ghost haunting me for my evil deeds.

Merchojed: what does its name mean

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 09:28 AM PDT

I was curious about what "Merchojed" (Mrchojedy in Czech) name means because it sounds a bit familiar but nonsensical to the Russian ear, and here is what I found out.

"Mrchojedy" is a compound word, where the parts are translated as

    • "mrcho" is either a dead animal or a generic insult, like a "bitch" or "douchebag" [1][2]
    • "jedy" is literally a plural form of the word "poison", and sounds somewhat close to "they ate / they eat" (ony jedly/oni jedí) [1][2][3]

At first it's clear, that the name translates as "the toxic cadaver", and its relevance to the story adds credibility. However, the old place names rarely actually mean what they seem to mean - so I decided to dig deeper, and came across this page with thoughts on the meaning of the Bohemian place-names (I've translated a few, see below the quote), including Merchojed:

...Pobipsy 1295 (nyní Polipsy) „ves lidí, kteří pobíjejí psy" (Pf. III, 428), MoÅ™ižaby 1395 „ves lidí, kteří moří, tj. hubí žáby" (Pf. III, 135), Kotopeky 1320 „ves lidí, kteří koty pekli" (Pf. II, 336), Mrchojedy 1316 „ves lidí, kteří mrchy jedí" (Pf. III, 146), snad i Zajakury 1383 „ves lidí, kteří zajali kury" (Pf. IV, 710) a nÄ›která jiná...

So, the name of Mrchojedy officially means the "people who eat dead flesh". But, I mean, who doesn't? (in XII century, anyway). I suggest the meaning "the carrion eaters", which is a bit insulting but makes sense in the times when every generation knew the taste of a famine.

And the examples of the medieval Bohemian place-names translated into English:

    • "Pobipsy" (dog-beaters)
    • "Zajakury" (chicken-captors)
    • "Kotopeky" (cat-burners)
    • "Sovolusky" (live-among-owls)
    • "VÅ¡epadly" (everyone-is-corrupt)
    • "Kozohlody" (goat-eatery)
    • "Lysolaje" (foxes-say-goodnight)
    • "PÅ™estavlky" (no-longer-werewolves).

Now the medieval Czechs are my model for a life lived to the fullest.

TL; DR The word Mrchojedy has the meaning of "the carrion eaters".

    My Friend Timmy need help

I have the plan to choose attack on the bandits, but I want to get on my horse. But every time I try they seem to magically teleport behind me and dismount me.

Edit: Trying to turn my horse around + racehorse. Hope it works.

Edit 2:I will run up the windmill and have them follow me. If that doesn't work I'll just surrender.

Edit 3: The windmill shall be my salvation!

Edit 4: I did it! I ran up into the windmill and hid! I got away! I did it!

Great game but it's so easy to get overpowered then it becomes boring

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 06:42 AM PDT

I enjoyed this game immenesely, so much so that I abandoned my normal playthrough and started hardcore with all negative perks for the ultimate experience. I imagined my Henry would be vulnerable all the way through most of the game which would require a realistic approach with roleplaying possibilities. I don't consider myself a munchkin or anything however after some time of investing into my character to be able to fend off the dangers of the world I find the game boring.

Mind you I haven't gotten out of my way to find things or boost my character, but having just finished the Reeky quest I have:

All dark stealth gear making me literally invisible and protected for most circumstances, meaning stealthing through bandit camps and assassinating NPCs in general is a breeze. I've the Stinger shortsword, when combined with Bane poison I have no trouble stabbing to death even heavily armoured opponents. And with sprinter perk and 32 speed I can run away from anything in this game, even when heavily wounded. I've the best horse with fully upgraded gear and nearly 100k in my bank account made from poaching boars, selling bandit loot and robbing merchants. I have 200 saviour schnapps and 10-20 of every potion on me for any situation, plus double that on my horse ready for use. All of my secondary skills are above 10 meaning I can handle any situation the game throws at me. Despite having the tapeworm perk I find having always to overfeed my Henry because food is so easy to get and there is too much of it. In a couple of tourneys I will also complete my plate armour set.

None of this took much effort or game knowledge to gain, considering this is my second semi-blind playthrough and I find myself disinterested to continue because my Henry feels invincible at this point. Sure, fighting more than two people is still very dangerous with light armour but then again that's not the playstyle I chose for my character since I don't wear plate armour for big fights and prefer to go the rogue/stealth route. Given everything that my character has I don't see anything that the main quest throwing at me could pose a challenge.

The atmosphere and roleplaying sensation in this game is insanely good however I just found that in order for that to work you have to play with severe self-limitations regarding gameplay for the game to be enjoyable from the realism and roleplaying perspective.

Here are some things I consider improperely tuned in this game:

-Ease of stealth and in general the poor level of awareness / alertness of NPCs.

I can rampage through Rattay killing everyone even in broad daylight and hardly anyone does anything about it. I can wipe half a bandit camp, get discovered and run away, only to return seconds later to find the survivors peacefully going to sleep among the still fresh corpses of their buddies.

-What's the point of pickpocketing when you can knock out anyone and rob them naked without any reprecussions? Why are sleeping NPCs magically aware thus being the the hardest entities to pickpocket in the entire game?

-Archery with point blank headshots is severely overpowered, making it the easiest way to fight anyone. Archery from stealth is borderline broken, you can shoot however much you want and then just reposition. Archery on horseback is overpowered and buggy, at some point NPCs just stop chasing you and stand there pretending they don't see a dude on a big horse 5 meters away, then let themselves be sprayed with arrows to death while casually walking away.

-Hunting game drops tonnes upon tonnes of meat, even with a low hunting skill.

-Alchemy becomes obsolete with autobrew, you can quickly get more potions than you could ever consume.

-Lockpicking is too easy, I have 100s of lockpicks in my stash because I never break any. Ever. Merchants chests marked "Very Hard" are still too easy. Shop guards sleep at night. Great.

That's not all the problems I have but you get the point. I wish Warhorse could've though out the game mechanics better because the game itself is so good but could've been so much better if not for several oversights.

    Do sidequest-givers and activity-givers expire?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 09:10 AM PDT

This is my third question in 2 days, I find a lot of great help on this reddit page. I actually installed reddit especially for this reddit page. I am really thankful for all the help that I get so I can understand the game better.

My question: do sidequest-givers and activity-givers expire? On the map in kingdom come you can see a lot of quest-givers, quest-tipsters and activity-givers. Does anyone know if they keep giving the quest forever or if it expires at a time and then you can't do that quest anymore. Or does it stay forever and can you accept the quest when you want?
