A refreshing move for the RPG genre

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 03:06 AM PDT

I purchased this game back in 2019, downloaded it, updated it and left it aside for more... frivolous pursuits.

Playing it now, I can only marvel at the genius that is this game. Finally, an RPG that does not hold my hand, or lead me with an illusion of 'choice'.

Learning and growing in this game is part of the joy, I feel the developers have absolutely nailed this balance. It does not feel tacked on or tedious at all.

With so much depth and an attitude of "Well, that was your fault, you should train more!" It's hard for me to beat myself up over my actions.

Every 'Game Over' screen has actually made me smile, laugh or both. Why was this? Because I felt each time I failed, it was a risk I was aware of and very much knew the consequences going in.

I've yet to even touch the main story (which I have heard is simply fantastic in itself) as I'm focusing heavily on stealth and lock picking, enjoying the exploration and constantly developing an understanding of the fantastic world around me.

The last time I had such joy in an RPG would probably be Morrowind or Baldurs Gate.

It saddens me however to think that this TRUE genre is dying. I feel developers are now scared their game will be deemed "too difficult" and slapped with a below-average scoring. Focussing on cheap RPG gimmicks and little depth in the world or characters within.

Kudos for WH studios for having the balls to develop such a masterpiece, knowing there is still an audience out there who have yearned for this type of game for many years!

Question about the quest "Questions and Answers"

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 11:01 AM PDT

So I arrived at Merhojed, and as you know already Pestilence quest starts after you talk with Matthias. Anyway so basically what I wanted to ask is, what if don't cure the people from the plague? What if I just kill the captured bandit and then loot the letter from his body and whatnot and go back to Sir Radzig.

I know this will mean I'll have to locate the "German Knight" instead of going directly to Rovna, but what I was curious about was whether leaving the people to Merhojed to die has any other effects on the story/ending or any characters or not.

Is there a point of no return?

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 09:55 AM PDT

I really want to start the Form The Ashes DLC and I read I need to finish the Baptism of Fire main quest.

In my understanding this quest is kind of a pivotal point in the story, also marking the half point of the story.

So my question is, are there any side quest or activities I won't be able to access after I finish Baptism of Fire?

    Thanks.

    Tips for the best start

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 03:42 AM PDT

I'm about to start my 4th playthrough and first in a year, I didn't realise you could grind the start in Skalitz so much. I haven't seen any videos on how to get the best start for the most recent version of the game. So could anyone give me some tips on how to grind out Skalitz to the max.

Can't do Good boy Henry playthrough. Too hard not to steal or kill anyone else relate?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 08:11 PM PDT

Like I can do it for so long until I realize that... (Btw I play on Xbox) 1. Need Groschen (especially for From the Ashes) 2. I wanna level all skills including stealth, pickpocket, and lock picking...which all naturally lead to criminal activity 3. Killing bunch of NPCs also helps in increasing combat stats faster (good example is Archery) 4. I need books for reading skill so again...gonna steal a lot. 5. Lockpicking Miller Pesheck's chest after giving him a shit ton of stuff is easy money so need high lockpicking for that which requires practice.. 6. I find it too fun to be bad boy Henry ☹

My weird ass experience with band of bastards

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 12:28 PM PDT

My experience with the Band Of Bastards was mostly alright, I did every mission, I even tracked down the bandits from the 1st mission and killed all of them. But the ending, everything hit the fan: I finished off Sir Hagen and everyone sheathes their swords, I do what any self respecting man-at-arms does, and start looting the dead corpses, but for some reason Dangler starts attacking me for stealing from the dead (even though they are all thiefs anyway???). And so ALL of the band start attacking me, with my armor and weapons being in very good shape, I kill all of them, except Sir Kuno because I need to talk to him. We have a very awkward conversation about all of his mercenaries dying (by my hands). He rides off knowing nothing about the encounter (I think I gave him brain damage from the mace) I report to Sir Radzig tell him that Sir Kuno's men died (and not mentioning that I slaughtered them) I go back to the empty and depressing camp that the band once inhabited, and thought about looting their chests, I try to steal the keys from Sir Kuno, but nothings easy so he finds out about me pickpocketing him and we fight in the first place we met. I, of course, I destroy him and he dies. I would like to think that he was just looking for an excuse to die, to see the closest thing to a family he has had for the past ~20yrs or so. It was a very sad ending to an otherwise great DLC. Would recommend.
