Posted: 20 Feb 2020 09:22 AM PST I'm having a pretty rough time on my first hardcore mode playthrough. This was the first time I got the alt ending in the intro where Henry dies. I got my ass kicked by kunesh, and got caught lockpicking and killed. All of which are things I was able to do successfully on my first playthrough. What tips can y'all give me to help with combat, what perks are the best for an optimal playthrough and what play style and gear works best in hardcore mode? Edit: what birth defects/psychological trauma debilitates your ability to succeed the least? [link] [comments]

How do I learn to like the combat in this game? Posted: 20 Feb 2020 10:54 AM PST Obvious rant. I've probably spent more time practicing with Bernard than I've played the actual game, not a joke, not an exaggeration, I've spent hours of real world time in a row just battling Bernard with wooden longswords to try and wrap my head around how you can enjoy a fight. Everytime I fight Bernard, it sucks. I never get to try combos because within 1-2 attacks he either perfect parries, sidesteps or masterstrikes me (90% of the time masterstrike). I followed his advice to the fucking letter, he tells me to weave my combos into my combat, I do. If one combo fails I immediately switch over to another depending on my position, if that one fails I switch over to another, out of 900000 combos I do, 1 hits, while Bernard has a score tally of 500000 masterstrikes and 399999 perfect parriesparries. Bernard is a big stinking coward aswell so if you don't attack him, you'll have to wait a solid 6 seconds for him to attack, which is annoying and breaks the flow. Even if I masterstrike him, beat him in a clinch or already have gotten a couple hits down on him he still always either perfect parry or masterstrikes me back, then goes to town. I hardly learn anything from him, except how to grind my teeth and dealing with wanting to punch a hole in my desk. Bernard is supposed to be some sort of Master Swordsman anyways, so I thought to my self "I guess it's somewhat fair that he can masterstrike 99% of the time", I'll go do some quests. I follow the main story and felt rather good when I (spoilers) killed Morcock and his cockbuddies by fleeing into the windmill and fighting them 1 on 1. Eventually I found Timmy, in-game lorewise considered to be a random arse peasant with a serious mental deficiency. I fight him because I'm fucking mad at Bernard, first attack I do against Timmy he fucking masterstrikes me. A fucking knuckle-dragging drooling moron who has no experience whatsoever in actual combat performs a fucking masterstrike like nothing with a spike club, taking a little chunk of my health away. Since I had armor it was no problem and I swiftly struck him down, but I was absolutely fucking flabbergasted. How come everyone in this game is a fucking master soldier while Henry sucks cock and balls in hell. Masterstrikes are supposed to be a top-tier ability that Henry only learns after he is already an adept swordsman, and even when you learn it you have to fucking be clairvoyant to pull it off by pressing Q BEFORE the green shield even fucking shows up, but NOOOOOO a random ass fucking peasant goon can fucking masterstrike you just for fun. I seriously think it's incredibly unfair and immersion breaking, there's a difference between "difficult" and "Fucking bullshit". I wouldn't even be half as mad as I am if Masterstrikes happened a percentage of the time that you perfect parry (Which the game makes you believe), because then I could just level up and get masterstrikes whenever I wanted. Please explain to me what I am doing wrong, and no fucking "Cheese with bow LOLOLOL" because if your only solution to how to have fun is to exploit then you're not really disproving any points I've made. TL;DR: Peasants are fucking godlike warriors and Henry sucks cock, the game makes you feel like a fucking inbred wielding a butterknife rather than a fucking soldier, even when your Henry has good stats. Tell me what I am doing wrong. [link] [comments]

How do the DLC's add to this game? Posted: 20 Feb 2020 10:36 AM PST So I'm tempted by buying the Royal DLC Package to enhance my game as I make a fresh start after a year away. That being said, reddit threads in regards to the DLC are super hit or miss. Some being pointless, some being fantastic. But how do they add in to the game? From Ashes seems to be a town builder, while Treasures is of course (I'm assuming) just a treasure hunt. Not sure about the Hans DLC, no the Bastards, or Woman's Lot. Anyway, are they 'level gated' in a sense, or is it pretty smooth in their addition to the game? Do any offer actual items/mechanics/QoL, or is it a simple enough "here is a quest, do it" type deal? Posted: 20 Feb 2020 06:32 AM PST Spoiler from prologue. So, in the prologue, you have to fight this guy. How do you do it? You cannot win, and if you lose the game says game over and you have to reload a previous save. You cannot run away, or lose him either. All help apreciated. PD: Basically when you bury your parents.
