PSA: XP you get at the archery range

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 08:47 AM PST

Tested this on a Theresa playthrough, but I feel it holds true for Henry, too.

Archery ranges give you a set XP when finishing (and preferably winning) the archery contest, not by just shooting at targets.

The XP (hardcore Theresa - but she doesn't have numbskull so max possible XP) is:

    • Beginner - pay 10G, win 30, get 20 XP. 7 arrows

    • Intermediate - pay 30g, win 90, get 45XP 13 arrows

    • Master - pay 70g, win 210, get 50XP, 21 arrows.

I find the intermediate one to finish a good 15-20 seconds faster than master (since the AI draws the bow to the max before releasing) and you only get 5 XP less. If grinding archery, intermediate looks like the way to go when trying to maximize experience gains per unit time.

You can, of course, hunt bunnies or livestock, but... Honorable Henry doesn't do that. Only rogue Henry does.

I accidently deleted my playline, can i restore it?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 05:05 AM PST

I fell victim to an awful, GOD AWFUL design. I died, I tried to reload, I accidently clicked new game, I chose playline 2 thinking I'm in a load menu. Boom. Gone. I don't have it anymore. It's just not there.

How can I get it back? Can I even?

How does Henry learn how to read in only one day?

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 10:56 AM PST

Children at school need 1-2 years to learn reading and writing and as an adult you are learning way slower than as a kid. I know that Henry is not able to read perfectly after the Mightier than the Sword Quest and is still improving his Reading Skill. Nonetheless he is capable of understanding a whole book about the papal schism after a single night of reading practice. How am I supposed to believe that??

Thoughts on Henry as a "set" protagonist

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 04:54 AM PST

    Sorry for the Rant.

Hi, just started playing the game a few weeks ago and I think it has already become one of my favorites. I am thinking I have only scratched the surface of the game in terms of the storyline and play styles.

But when I watched reviews of the game before buying it there was one theme that popped up that pops up often with games that do not let you customize (the appearance) of your protagonist. It is probably clear which reviewers played more than 20 min of the game because I think anyone who feels the way they set up Henry as a hindrance to replayability does not know what they are talking about.

KCD game always gets compared to Skyrim or the Witcher 3. In terms of the choice to make Henry the protagonist it gets aligned with the Witcher. But for the time I played the Witcher 3 I thought the character Geralt is much more set in stone. I feel like even when I was given choices, half of them felt unacceptable for Geralt, and my decision was predetermined if I am playing along with who Geralt is. Henry feels far more like a blank slate.

Lastly that brings me to the idea that Skyrim offered more choice to the player in terms of character building. I am not sure that that is 100% clear. Even with Skyrim beign my favorite game up until getting KCD, I think Skyrim might be a bit overrated in that regard. Being a cat vs a Nord I think is kinda superficial. Anything in terms of Kajite being treated differently would be 95% up to the player to enforce other than maybe a few dialogue options. And to my recollection it is really only the Dawnguard DLC that lets you choose an opposing faction, unless you count the Dark Brotherhood questline. I wouldn't count the civil war since it is really just a choice between more town guards in blue uniforms or imperial uniforms on patrol in the end.

But my opinion might change when I start a second playthrough of KCD. Now I am going through as a noble knight type character which seems pretty natural I will see if I start a more rougeish playthrough if that feels as natural.

Anyway sorry for the rant, but I really am wondering if other fans of KCD, the Witcher 3 and Skyrim feel the same.

An idea for those not happy with the lack of a bow reticle for aiming.

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 12:54 AM PST

Please note this is for consoles which to my knowledge have not a console option nor mod options. For PC it's far simpler just to pull down console (~) and type: wh_pl_showfirecursor 1

When you use a bow you aim down the shaft to know where it will go. You can't do this in KCD so it's an unrealistic "realism" to have no reticle.

If you're on console and can't utilise the simple console command, you can grab some bluetack or something similar. Stick it on top of the dot you get when unarmed or using melee (which really isn't needed). Then when bow comes out while the reticle disappears, your physical marker you put on the screen stays.

Oh and FYI: You still need to compensate for distance by aiming the cursor above the target enough to account for now drop. This simply removes the need to "educated guess" the correct aim in a left/right axis. So there's still some aiming elements required. This is why I consider it (factoring you lose so much aiming input being on a 2d screen) not to be a true cheat.

    (Edited for clarity)

Fritz was killed by Cumans in a random encounter??

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 06:38 AM PST

SPOILERS for the Fritz/Matthew storyline ahead

In "a friend in need" I solved the issue by driving Thomas away (pickpocketed the scarf off him and then threatened to expose him). Soon after, Fritz and Matthew apparently decided to run away anyway (I only got to hear this from the Innkeeper in Ledetchko afterwards though) to the Inn in the Glade.

However, before I learned about them running away, I was randomly attacked on the road while fast-traveling through the woods just west of The Inn in the Glade. The message was something like "You find yourself in the middle of a fight and have no time to think!". There were some Cumans attacking someone quite far up ahead, but 3 of them broke off and came for me. While fighting the Cumans I noticed someone running off into the woods to the south. After killing the three Cumans I proceeded up the road and noticed a body. And to my shock, it was Fritz (which I still assumed was at the Miller in Ledetchko.

A while after this, two "Quest Giver" stars appeared on the map. One on Matthew, now drinking happily in the Inn, and one at the location of Fritz' (now gone) body in the middle of the road. I can't talk to Matthew at all, nor to Andrew.

Since I assumed the Fritz/Matthew interaction was over after I solved their problem with Thomas, I kept on playing for quite a while after noticing Fritz dead, several hours in RL. So I'd very much not prefer to have to load a save before the random Cuman fight.

Anyone else had this happen? Any ideas how to solve it (besides loading)? Why the hell was Fritz (and Matthew?) way out west of the Inn, when they were traveling from Ledetchko??

    Bug that soured mood?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 11:00 PM PST

I have it as Rant because I'm unsure. So I was happily enjoying the game but it seems this game completely ruins my mood with the nonsense that it has at times. I'm riding around the world, minding my business when I see some people running around. Weird... as I'm riding near a forest. I get off my horse and see bandits fighting guards. Oh! I can practice some fighting and also boost my reputation! :D

    Nah.

After killing all the bandits and searching them, I even get the reputation raised icon. Cool, time to go. Except suddenly both guards try to murder me in cold blood. Why?! I helped you! I surrendered and they said I committed some crime (which I hadn't as I'm still really new in the game.) and I can't sweet talk my way out. Okay, maybe if I run away they'll leave me alone. Turns out they're like Olympic sprinters.

Mind you I don't want to go to jail because I'm doing a quest and also I don't know if they'll take the things I've acquired along the way. That and I don't deserve to go to jail! So then I soon perish by them because I'm just flailing a sword around and hoping to hit as this games combat kinda sucks.

Reload and I'm about a half hour back from where I once was. Instant sour mood.

Mind you, I was going to save after the skirmish but I was being attacked right after. I want to like this game but things like this really bug me not to mention the combat isn't as fun or engaging as I hoped it would be. :(
